Using a Mobile Health App to Diagnose Muscle Pain
Primary PI: Beth Taylor
Our lab group has just completed the development of a patient-center mobile phone application, using Medable’s Axon SmartStudy system, to diagnose and treat the muscle-related side effects of statin drugs, which are common and popular cholesterol-lowering drugs. The new app, called the SAMS-CI allows patients, clinicians and researchers to assess statin-associated muscle symptoms on a daily basis associated with starting and stopping statin use. We have an IRB-approved trial to pilot test the SAMS-CI mobile health application in clinical practice using patients from the Cholesterol Management Center at Hartford Hospital. We are looking for a student to assist with this study, as well as continue to help us develop the commercialization of our app. We completed the NSF I-Corps Accelerate UConn program to design market maps for the SAMS-CI (target: pharmaceutical companies and paid advertising) and want to continue moving our app towards potential commercialization.
